Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd Jr. (October 25, 1888 – March 11, 1957) was an American naval officer and explorer. Richard Evelyn Byrd, Jr. (1920-1988) was the only son of the polar explorer Admiral Richard Byrd. He served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant and accompanied his father on his last two Antarctic expeditions, Operation Highjump and Operation Deep Freeze.
